ASUS Expertbook "keyboard lagged"

This is a known issue that sometimes occurs when a BIOS update changes how the system handles hardware interrupts or power-saving states (specifically PCIe Link State Power Management).

Since you’re in the ICT sector, you’ll likely find these technical steps the most effective for your ExpertBook.

1. Perform an EC (Embedded Controller) Reset

This is the most common fix for "post-BIOS" hardware glitches. It resets the hardware's low-level communication without affecting your files.

  • Disconnect the power adapter and all peripherals.

  • Power off the laptop completely.

  • Press and hold the Power button for 40 seconds. (The laptop may turn on and off during this; keep holding until the 40 seconds are up).

  • Plug the power back in and turn it on normally.

2. Update the "ASUS System Control Interface"

The keyboard often lags because the communication between the BIOS and the MyASUS software is out of sync.

  • Open Device Manager.

  • Expand System devices.

  • Right-click ASUS System Control Interface (v3 or higher).

  • Select Uninstall device and check the box for "Attempt to remove the driver for this device."

  • Restart your laptop. Windows will reinstall a generic version, but you should then go to the ASUS Support Site or use MyASUS to download the latest version specifically for your ExpertBook model.

3. Disable "USB Selective Suspend" (If using an external/docked keyboard)

If the lag happens with an external keyboard or through a dock:

  • Go to Control Panel > Power Options > Change plan settings.

  • Click Change advanced power settings.

  • Find USB settings > USB selective suspend setting and set it to Disabled.

4. Check for "Filter Keys" in Windows

Sometimes a BIOS update triggers a change in Windows Accessibility settings that mimics lag.

  • Go to Settings > Accessibility > Keyboard.

  • Ensure Filter Keys is turned OFF. If it's on, Windows ignores brief or repeated keystrokes, which feels like lag.

5. Roll Back or Reflash (Last Resort)

If the lag is severe (e.g., characters appearing 1–2 seconds late), the BIOS update may have been "dirty."

  • Go back into the BIOS (F2 during boot) and select "Restore Defaults" (usually F9 then F10).

  • If that fails, check if your ExpertBook model allows a BIOS rollback or if there is a "Hotfix" firmware specifically for the keyboard available on the ASUS driver page under "Others" or "Hotfix."
